                                    Road Trip

Before hitting the open road with friends or family take some time to prepare your vehicle for the trip ahead.

                                    Preparation

                                    • Get a pre-trip tune up
                                    • Make room in the car for the following summer safety essentials:
                                      • Owner's manual
                                      • Insurance and roadside assistance numbers
                                      • Detailed map of entire route
                                      • Clean, empty gas can
                                      • Reflective triangles and flares
                                      • Spare tire and jack
                                      • Booster cables

                                      • Extra batteries

                                      • Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat
                                      • Walking shoes
                                      • Phone card and spare change

                                    On the Road

                                    • Always buckle up
                                    • If you can, drive during the day, not at night
                                    • Be aware of your surroundings and identifying landmarks
                                    • Driver fatigue can strike at any time; if you feel yourself getting tired, get off the road or switch drivers
                                    • Always drive sober and alert. Alcohol, drugs, distractions, fatigue and emotional stress decrease your awareness and reaction time
                                    • Always tell a friend or relative your travel plans
As a recognized leader and an advocate for injury prevention, the Toronto Area Safety Coalition believes that safety is a right of all people and that injuries are predictable and preventable. We are committed to reducing the number of injuries and injury-related deaths in our community through collaboration and education.
