Road Trip
Before hitting the open road with friends or family take some time to prepare your vehicle for the trip ahead.
Preparation

- Make room in the car for the following summer safety essentials:
- Owner's manual
- Insurance and roadside assistance numbers
- Detailed map of entire route
- Clean, empty gas can
- Reflective triangles and flares
- Spare tire and jack
- Booster cables
- Warm blanket
- First-aid kitToolbox and repair kits
- Portable battery-powered radio
- Flashlight
- Extra batteries
- Energy bars - ie. granola bars
- Bottled water
- Sunglasses, sunscreen, and a hat
- Walking shoes
- Phone card and spare change
- Cellular phone or radio (for emergencies)
On the Road
- Always buckle up
- If you can, drive during the day, not at night
- Be aware of your surroundings and identifying landmarks
- Driver fatigue can strike at any time; if you feel yourself getting tired, get off the road or switch drivers
- Always drive sober and alert. Alcohol, drugs, distractions, fatigue and emotional stress decrease your awareness and reaction time
- Always tell a friend or relative your travel plans
