                                    Water and Boating Safety


                                    Water Safety
                                    • Know how to swim
                                    • Know the depth of water before entering
                                    • Be within arms reach of children
                                    • Utilize appropriate PFD or life jacket
                                    • Restrict access to backyard pools 
                                    • Drain all portable pools after use
                                    • Don't mix swimming and alcohol

                                    Boating Safety
                                    • Know the weather forecast and keep your eye on the sky
                                    • Be aware of any local hazards or boating restrictions
                                    • Bring maps or charts with you
                                    • Make sure there are enough personal flotation devices of appropriate size for everyone on board
                                    • Make sure all safety equipment is in good working order
                                    • Have ample reserves of fuel for the trip
                                    • Have a working VHF radio on board
                                    • Have a first aid kit, basic tools and spare parts with you
                                    • Be sure to let someone know where you're going, when to expect you back and what your boat looks like
                                    • You never know where you might be when the sun sets - take a powerful, waterproof light with you
